Boat Float Regulations

Summer 2001

The Board of Overseers has voted to suspend the requirement for a permit to leave a dinghy at the boat float for the 2001 season. The Board hopes to avoid the need to adopt a system that limits the use of the float to a small number of permitted users. If float users will adhere to the following regulations it is hoped that it will be unnecessary to apply more stringent policies to manage the use of this resource.

  1. A dinghy must be conspicuously marked (inside and readable from the float) with your name and local telephone number. Four-inch letters done with a felt marker are acceptable but must be redone as necessary.
  1. Dinghy length shall not be greater than 10 feet. The 10-foot length includes the length of the motor in the up position.
  1. A dinghy should have no rough edges or protruding nails or screws that might damage adjacent boats. The dinghy should not leak.
  1. No dinghy shall be left unattended for a period that exceeds 48 hours. If you do not plan to use your dinghy for several days, you should take it to the beach or move it to the out float.
  1. A dinghy must be bailed before noon on the day following a rainstorm.
  1. Unattended dinghies will be moved to the beach or out float at the discretion of the wharf master and his assistants.
  1. No dinghies are allowed to be stored on top of the float.
  1. A dinghy tied to the float is left at the owner’s risk.

Exceptions to the above regulations may be made by the wharf master to provide readily accessible options for emergency use.
