THE SELECTMEN MEETINGS ARE THE 1ST MONDAY AND THE 3RD MONDAY OF EACH MONTH. MEETINGS WILL BEGIN AT 8AM

Committees & Communications

Comprehensive Plan Committee

Progress has been reported! New "chair pro-tem": Molly Schauffler. The plan is just about ready for public hearing on Monday 8/11. Looks like we will be in good shape for putting the item to a vote at our Special Town Meeting 9/22. Their next committee meeting is Wednesday 8/6.  Discussion on redefining maps, some further wording recommendations & changes.

Administrative Ordinances

Executive summary was distributed to selectmen. E-mail comments and recommended changes. Ready for review at public hearing 8/11. Ready for vote at Special Town Meeting 9/22.

Transfer Station Committee

Next meeting scheduled for 8/28 at 7:30AM ..

DEP rep attended last session (7/27)and was helpful with regard to expanding our recycling efforts.

We will be modifying existing container for newsprint & mixed paper.

We will be adding a new container for #2 plastic, colored plastic and tin 

bullet

Grant money will be used for modifications of the recycling containers.

Burgess to meet with Pine Tree Waste with regard to modifying the containers Wednesday 8/6 at 8:30AM

Committee to investigate "grant" money to get power down to transfer station. Cost estimate is $30,000.

Roads & Bridges

Rooney, Magruder and Burgess meeting with Commercial Paving at Town Office on Tuesday 8/12 at 8:00AM. They have a recycled asphalt product (Aggraphalt) that is 1/2 the cost of traditional paving

DOA: $2.5 million dollar bond is a dead issue. Recent interest rate hike put borrowing costs out of our reach. Still plan to meet with Phil Curtis with MDOT to lay out road work plan.

               

Financial

Back Taxes are an issue making "Cash- flow" tight.

New mil rate set at $18.60 a 15% increase over previous year. Increase from County $91,000. Schools flat at $1,757,000. Roads & Bridges up about $200,000 over previous year where we had a carry over and an overlay of $77,500 was established.

                                 

Policy Decisions & Administration

Robin Combs has two appointments set up to investigate a phone system for the Town Office.

Still have not heard from Basil (Lawn's R-Us) regarding cost estimate on cemetery fence installation, Bill Magruder to follow up with Basil. CMP will help drill fence post holes.

 

Code Enforcement, Planning & Permits

CEO Frank Therio updated selectmen on the progress with the Fortin trailer park off Route 1. Septic failure, surface discharge and repairs are the issues. Town has given Fortin additional time to resolve.

Temple Heights also has some issues, more civil related (neighbor to neighbor) vs. town. CEO to follow up where necessary.

 

Legal & Other Issues

Still no written line agreement for Saturday Cove area. Bill Kelly to finalize line agreement. E-mail sent to Kelly for update, asking to report back by 8/18.

 

Roads & Bridges

Road Commissioner to touch base with Jane Phillips

Status of Pitcher Road ?

Selectmen put brakes on spending until our cash picture improves.

Patching completed on Nebraska Road . 

 

Real Estate Assessors Functions, Tax Policy and Liens & Collections

Commitment set at $18.60 per $1,000.

Revaluation work on going. Cards being entered into Real Estate Assessment System.

TRIO real estate computer upgrades to be installed 8/8  

 

Transfer & Recycling Station

Industrial Metals still has not carted off the partial load of metal waste. Fax sent/second request.

E-mail sent to Bill Butler (DEP) regarding household hazardous waste storage.

"HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DAY" is scheduled for September in Waldo. 

 

Harbors & Waterways

Art Tibbetts 'way" behind schedule on setting pilings for Saturday Cove floats.

Harbor Committee to meet 8/4.

All but one mooring fee paid & current. Harbor Master to address with Harbor Committee.   

 

Fire and Health & Safety

Owen Smith/County Commissioner's responded to our concerns for 911 communications. he will be following up in writing. County has applied for funds to improve communications systems under a Homeland Security grant.

Knights Pond camp & picnic area problem. are not supervised or respected by users.

Paul Rooney to invite Fire Chief to our next selectmen's meeting to provide an overview of their activities

 

Bayside Village

Water Utility District: Voting procedure is still under review. Waiting final recommendation as to procedure.

bullet

First estimate on Cobe Road/Shore Road ditch and drainage work $78,000.
