Northport Selectmen’s Meeting

6/7/04

Present:  Denise Lindahl; Paul Rooney; Ed Moran; Frank Therio; Bill Magruder; Jim Cummings; Barbara Wallace

CEO UPDATE:

Frank Therio gave an update on the top issues he has been working on within the Town.  A breakdown of those items is attached.  The lack of storage space was addressed.  The Selectmen agreed to order more filing cabinets that lock.  Frank noted he has ordered a subdivision map holder.

ROAD COMMISSIONER:

Bill Magruder reported he is getting ready to chip the brush at the landfill and in the Town.  He will contact Gordon Libby Enterprises to check the cost of a tub grinder.  This will be able to handle larger pieces and may be less expensive.  Some of the chipped material will be donated to the school for their trails.  He will also look into the cost of a tub grinder for the Town.

He stated the Nations Rent bill should be disregarded.  If any more come, he will call them.

Bluff Road will be getting new hot top.  He will do some ditching before this work begins, around the end of the month.  Based on the money allocated for the work, he will discuss the cost before the work begins.

SELECTMEN:

Denise discussed a police presence in Town, especially in Bayside after complaints of speeding.  The Belfast Police Department Deputy will make passes through this area.

Ed was asked about an open position in the Zoning Board.  The Selectmen should be notified of anyone interested and also the Chairman of the Zoning Board.  As a reminder, the various town committees should be keeping minutes of their meetings.  The new filing cabinets will allow these minutes to be kept at the town office.

There has been no response as yet for the Cemetery work.

It was agreed to sign the fuel contract with Consumer’s Fuel for the coming season.

There had been a tenter at Knights Pond living there.  It is posted no camping.  A note was left in the tent and the tent and tenter are gone.  The changing room has been vandalized and the area trashed.  It was agreed to use money from the Parks fund to clean up the area.

The hazardous waste recycling day will be July 17th this year in Searsmont.

Paul mentioned he had received an email regarding a meeting to be held at the Town Office on Thursday regarding the Route 1 Corridor, sponsored by the Gateway Committee of the DOT.  No one was aware of the meeting.  Denise will be available to attend.

NEW FIRE TRUCK:

Jim discussed the financing for the new fire truck.  He has been speaking with Judy Marshall of AAIG.  Money will be tight through the summer until fall taxes start coming in.  It was agreed to take the almost $80,000 in the Bangor Savings money market account and transfer it to the General Fund.  By making this down payment now it will save the Town $1,400 a year.  Delivery of the new truck will be in 6-8 months.

Since money will be tight we will look into borrowing money if needed.  There is a form to be used by towns when borrowing money.  Barbara will check with Belfast to get the form.

Adjourned.
