BHPS OPEN HOUSE

Submitted by Marge and Dick Brockway

On Saturday afternoon, October 11, 2003, the weatherman cooperated by providing a spectacular day when  the Bayside Historical Preservation Society held its first open house at the recently refurbished museum building on Pleasant Street.

Over seventy-five people attended the open house, including patrons, BHPS officers and members, Bayside residents and guests, and passersby.

The cottage, decorated in a fall motif with flowers, pumpkins, Indian corn and a scarecrow awaiting the guests of the open house.

In addition to the decorations around the exterior of the building, several BHPS members brought photographs and displays of early Bayside memorabilia to arrange around the main display area.

Besides introducing the new museum cottage to the Bayside community; the open house also served as an opportunity to provide a  public thank you to the many volunteers who donated their time, effort and materials in the reconstruction, wiring, painting, and clean up of the cottage and the grounds to bring the cottage to its present condition.

Visitors to the BHPS museum open house were provided with refreshments and a tour of the new facility.
