2019-07-21 Nosedive by Samway
2019-07-21 Nosedive, photographed by Tim Samway. There was a lot of excitement (and not the good kind) on the Penobscot Bay today when the Northport Yacht Club’s John Short Series Race #5 was cut short by a sudden squall. First, the non-participating catamaran pictured here, captained by Bo Brigham, pitch-poled, throwing both sailors (Bo and his girlfriend Betsy) into the bay. Due to the windy conditions, Betsy and the boat were separated, and she had to swim to shore, where she was assisted by Lisa Webster. Almost simultaneously, racer Danny Webster and his girlfriend, Taylor, were also thrown from Danny’s Dart catamaran and rescued at sea by the crew of Erik Ekberg’s Flyer. Fortunately, all sailors ended up being safe and accounted for, both capsized boats were rescued, and damage was minimal. Great thanks to the many Baysiders who came to the rescue. They say “It takes a village,” and this Village steps up when needed!
